Cross-Dressing and The Bible

Deuteronomy 22:5

“A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the Lord your God detests anyone who does this.”

I may be stepping on some toes with this one, but I often think that the common person who does not read the Bible daily does not get to uncover some of the truths God has put in His Word. Here we have God saying that He does not condone the act of wearing the clothes of the opposite sex. In today’s vernacular, it is labeled as being a “cross-dresser” or “transvestite.”

Growing up in the church, it was taught to me that this practice is wrong, as well as other things this practice seems to be associated with, but I never uncovered where it was in the Bible. Well, friends, here it is in black and white text.

What you may not be thinking is that God points this out for a reason. The nations of people who did such horrible acts as sacrificing their kids to the god Molek practiced this as well. In other words, where you smell smoke, you may be close to some fire. God was teaching this nation of slaves how to be an actual nation with laws and guidelines so they can rule and reign justly as a growing nation.

This world seems to let chaos run rampant without structure and laws. Believe it or not, you like laws and structure, not because they keep you from harm, but because it is a rubber stamp from God Himself. You are made in the image of God, so whether you think like it or not, God has programmed you with His way of thinking.

In football, we have two teams competing, and they both want to win. You never see one of them just play because it is fun. No, one team ultimately will play to win. Here on earth, we have two teams, God and Satan. God has already won the war, but Satan keeps tricking God’s people into believing certain things are not against God and His laws.

Imagine a lawyer who is defending you in court. You are in court, and the judge asks a question to your lawyer, who leans over and tells you that he actually knows nothing about the law. He just put on the suit and fooled you into thinking he did. Friends, this lawyer is Satan. He is fooling this generation into thinking such practices are not against God and are just an expression of themselves and that it means nothing.

Today, do not be tricked into thinking such practices are harmless. Turn to God, and He will correct your bad judgment. Your efforts will not be enough; you need Him.

Prayer: Father, help me to recognize all of the evil ways Satan will trick us or misguide us. I pray for clarity and strength to set these practices in their proper place. I pray for grace and truth to come out of my mouth from the Word of the Lord, and for those who practice such things to come to know the Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.
