Did You Forget Something?

Deuteronomy 6:4-9  

⁴ Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.^[a] 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. ⁶ These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. ⁷ Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. ⁸ Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. ⁹ Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”

Have you ever placed an item in a certain spot so you would not forget it?  Or wrote a note down reminding you to do something?  I think we all have done this many times.  The reason we practice such things is that somewhere inside we know that we might just forget to do that or pick up something we needed and we place reminders so it will jog our memory and make us remember. 

Moses is speaking to the Israelites about Loving the Lord Your God.  He mentions eight points in these verses. I have written them out below.

1.  Hear O Israel!  What profound concept, the command to hear something. 

2.  Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and strength.

3.  They are to be on your hearts.

4.  Impress them on your children.

5.  Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk, lie down, and get up

6.  Tie them as symbols on your hands.

7.  Bind them on your foreheads

8.  Write them on your door frames of your houses and gates.  

This concept of Christianity is not a Sunday thing.  It is not a class to go to thing.  It is not a “well it works in certain cases” thing.  It clearly is a lifestyle that God has impressed upon us by reading his word.  Read the list of commands and ask yourself which ones am I not doing. 

The Bible says we walk by faith and not by sight.  The Lord is not saying here we are blindly going to live our lives ignoring the things around us.  If faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God, then our lives should reflect these steps above. 

Today, if your world is messed up or your life has holes start reminding yourself of all what God has done.  The Lord was constantly trying to get the Israelites to focus and remember what God did for them so they could face tomorrow with strength. 

We overcome by the blood of the lamb and word of our testimony, start using that forgotten tool.  Your testimony might just change someone’s life. If your life needs some change then begin reading these verses and making it personal to you. When we focus on the Lord He promises to guide us, protect us, and so much more. The question is, are you still wasting time looking for that lost item in your life? Start looking in God’s word.

Prayer: Father, we all get distracted by the cares of this world. I pray that we keep our focus on your repeating the wonderful things you have done for us and also what we read in your word. I pray that we make those promises personal so we can stand on them in Jesus’ name, amen.
