Out Loud Faith

Zechariah 8:23

“This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘In those days ten people from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, ‘Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you’”.

Tom called and said, “You have to go to Dillard’s. They are having a huge sale on men’s clothes, and everything is marked down super low.” Naturally, I went, and I found a huge sale on nearly everything in the store. Tom was right, and he loves to hear that. I don’t remember what I purchased that day, but I remember getting a good deal. If Tom had never said anything about it, I would have never known about the sale. Word-of-mouth advertising got me to Dillards. If someone connected to me had not said a word, I would have missed out.

I don’t normally go shopping, so this occasion was rare. I love the fact that my buddy Tom called me and told me about it. He wanted me to partake in the occasion because he ended up getting some great deals. He was not silent about it at all.

Zechariah was prophesying about the Lord blessing Israel. In our verse, it states that in those days ten people from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by his robe and say, “Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.” The word will get out that the Lord is doing great things and attracting all kinds of people. They will flood in from all over the place, find those who seek out the Lord, and ask if they can go with them because they heard God was with them.

Crazy sounding in some respects, but oh so true. When we lift up the name of the Lord, the Bible says that He will draw all men unto Him. Lift up the name of Jesus. Don’t be silent. Don’t keep the light of Jesus under a shade, but let it shine for all to see.

How, you might ask? The easiest way is to lift up Jesus. Lift Him up in your speech. Lift Him up in your actions. Lift Him up in your conversations. Refuse to keep silent about the Lord. When Peter and John were captured in Acts, the rulers of the day told them to stop talking about Jesus. Peter and John replied, “We cannot stop talking about what we have seen and heard.”

Don’t keep your faith silent. Practice being an outward follower of Christ. Work faith and Jesus into conversations. Listen for the Holy Spirit to open the door. Silent faith is only good for you. God has called us to preach the good news and spread the gospel, not keep our walk with Jesus to ourselves.

For some, this is easy. For others, it may take some practice. You don’t have to become a preacher to spread the gospel. The Bible says that they will know us by our fruits and by our love. Sometimes the loudest thing to say is expressed in how you treat others. God has some big things in your future, and He wants to see you walk by faith and not by sight. He wants you to be firmly planted by the streams of living water so that you will bear fruit in season. Lift up the name of the Lord and watch Him draw people into your life so you can pour out the love of the Lord to them.

“…we have heard that God is with you.”

What do people say about you?

Prayer: Father, help me be an out-loud Christian. I pray that I will listen to the Holy Spirit as He opens doors so I can work my testimony into everyday conversations. In Jesus’ name, amen.
