“Thus has the Lord of hosts said, ‘Dispense true justice, and practice kindness and compassion each to his brother, and do not oppress the widow or the orphan, the stranger or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another.”
In spy movies, you always have that scene where someone tells the spy or the good guy a set of instructions, and it seems way too long for the average human to remember all of the details. I could see myself getting the first couple of details right, but then forgetting the rest.
We look at the state of things today, and it is easy to see that things are in stark contrast to the verses above. We have warped justice, better known as privilege, more riots and violence than we have seen in a long time between Americans. As a result of all this, the widows, orphans, the strangers, and the poor seem to be more oppressed by rising crime and rising prices everywhere. Worst of all, we have a woke ideology running rampant across our young people and turning their hearts in an evil direction toward one another.
While these things have existed ever since Adam and Eve disobeyed God, we have seen a huge uptick that has shaken the country. I love it when someone says, “Where is that in the Bible?” Well, here it is in black and white, the plan of action from the Lord spelled out for all of us. Not only was this plan of action from the Lord, but it has also existed ever since Moses wrote the books of the law. Solid, old foundational truth that cannot be shaken.
In verses 11 and 12 in the same chapter, it talks about the Israelites turning a stubborn shoulder and refusing to pay attention to the plan in verses 9 and 10. As a result, they stopped hearing the words of the Lord and refused to pay attention to anything concerning the Lord. Their hearts became like flint and could not hear the word of the Lord.
Our democratic republic allows us to elect representatives who will go to DC and fight for the things we see need changing. As wonderful as it is to be able to do this, it is not enough. We all need to take a few moments and really let these verses sink into our minds and write them on the tablet of our hearts.
The change we seek here in America is a heart issue. We have seen the heart of the country be turned to stone and refuse to pay attention or listen to sound godly wisdom. It starts with you, every one of you. Yes, the solution is in the Bible, whether or not you want to see it or hear it, it is in black and white.
The Bible says that God breathed life into his word, and he says in John that in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was Jesus. The Bible is Jesus in black and white, translated so we can read it in many forms, and all of it is the inspired living word of God. We have a heart issue here in America similar to what the Israelites went through.
The plan of action is to read, study, and obey the word of God because it is the only true solution to all of the issues we face today. Don’t worry, you don’t have to memorize it like in a spy movie; all you have to do is start and let the Holy Spirit guide you to the truth. Jesus said that He is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one goes to the Father except through Him. Problem, solution, done! What score did you get on this test?
Prayer: Father, help me to dive into the Bible and let it change my heart concerning all things. I choose to put you first and to let your word guide my thoughts, actions, and motives in all things. In Jesus’ name, amen.
