Agape Love

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭4‬:‭10‬

The definition of agape love is unconditional, sacrificial love. It is a love that is given freely without expecting anything in return. Agape love is not based on feelings, performance, or worthiness; it is a choice to love even when it costs something.

We didn’t run to God; God ran to us. I didn’t love God perfectly enough; He loved me. When I was at my worst, He saw me and loved me the same. That is agape love. It’s not about perfection. It’s about receiving the free gift of salvation and love by faith.

It can be easy to forget this truth because of the world we live in. Where it feels like everything is earned by transactions. Which is true to an extent. But not salvation and God’s agape love. We can do nothing to earn it, and we can do nothing to lose it.

It motivates us to want to please God and not break His heart by sinning. Real love changes us. When we truly understand the grace and mercy of Jesus, we no longer obey out of fear; we obey out of love and thankfulness for everything He has done.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank you for another day. Thank you for your agape love and for dying on the cross for my sin. I did nothing to earn it, and I can do nothing to lose it. I call upon you today just to tell you that I’m thankful and I love you. In Jesus name, amen.
