A Total Nation Makeover

Psalm 90:12, 17

” Teach us to number our days,

that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

“May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us;

establish the work of our hands for us—-

yes, establish the work of our hands.”

Moses had a difficult job. He was charged with bringing the Israelites out of bondage and leading them into the promised land. He did just that with the Lord guiding him every day. If you were to go and hang out in a rough bar every night without drinking for five years, I can only imagine how your thought process would look at the end of those five years. Now picture an entire race of people who were in slavery for over 400 years and how their thought processes must have been when Moses led them out of Egypt. In just 40 years, the Lord radically reprogrammed an entire nation to follow Him and seek after Him. Moses recognized it was only the Lord who could transform this slave nation into what He wanted.

In Psalm 90, Moses is praying. He prays for the Lord to teach us to number our days so that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Moses was front and center for every day of the 40-year transformation of the Israelites. He also knew God had plans to bless these people for generations to come. In other words, it was not the Moses show. It was the Lord who was to be lifted up and praised. Moses knew that during the short time on this earth he had, he wanted the wisdom of the Lord. He ends the chapter of Psalm 90 with a personal declaration of sorts. He wants the favor of the Lord to rest on the Israelites so all the work of their hands would be established by the Lord.

As long as you have a slave mentality, you will never see the favor of the Lord. Even if you see miracles and wonders, your heart will be in the wrong place. You will be like the people who kept asking Jesus for a sign only to get none. Jesus says that a wicked and evil generation seeks a sign and none will be given. The Israelites were burdened by this in the wilderness. They kept seeing the wonders of the Lord only to whine to Moses more and more.

God wants your heart, and He wants to transform you into a wonderful creation who lifts up the Lord and follows Him. Trust Him today and reach out to Him. Give Him your heart. A slavery mindset is bondage to your progress in the Lord. The Lord can transform your broken life into a life of blessing in a fraction of the time it took you to mess it up. Just give it all to Him today and watch your life transform.

Prayer: Father, help us to number our days and to have a heart of wisdom. May the favor of the Lord rest on us and may the work of our hands be blessed and established. In Jesus’ name, amen.
