The Wrong Plans

Isaiah 22:13

“But see, there is joy and revelry, slaughtering of cattle and killing of sheep, eating of meat and drinking of wine!  “Let us eat and drink,” you say, “for tomorrow we die!”

I can tell you that planning is a good thing.  Planning for retirement, planning for a trip or even dinner.  For the most part, the Lord calls us to use our brains and plan.  This does not always mean that our plans play out just like we thought.  In fact, as the old saying goes, plans are sometimes helpful.

In our world today, we have seen many plans get uprooted and changed.  Being able to shift and move depending upon the circumstance seems to be the norm with all the fear that has been laid on us.  We cannot wake up without a school notice or news briefing that emboldens the fear.  One thing I know for sure is that the Lord God has a plan and His plans never fail. (Isaiah 14:24)  The Bible says that He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end and His promises are yes and amen. (Revelation 1:8, 2 Corinthians 1:20

I would say that this is often different to the way we live our lives.  We scurry about picking up pieces of failed plans and begin to fashion them into a new plan hoping it will work when all along the Lord God Almighty is waiting for us to take comfort in His plan.  Yes, His plan and not yours.  Isaiah was speaking to Israel in these two verses and they felt the strain of an enemy bearing down on them. You can read about the desperation they felt even to the point of planning their death.

Two things;

1. God already knows the future.

2.  So rest in His plans.

Yes, rest in them.  The Bible says that He goes before you and will level the mountains (Isaiah 45:2).  He will level those mountains in His time not our time.  Therefore, we walk by faith and not by sight so don’t get caught up in not seeing your plans come together. Instead, have faith that a loving God is showing you the path He wants you to take. (2 Corinthians 5:7

Prayer: Father, today commit to walking by faith and not by sight.  Don’t let me get discouraged by what I see and hear but hold me accountable to the faith I have in You.  You are with me on the mountain tops and the valleys and you even set a table in the presence of my enemies. (Psalm 23:5)  Help me to stay on the path you have for me and keep me from failing. But if I do fail, help me learn from those mistakes so I can teach others your ways. In Jesus name, amen.
