The Stirring Up

Isaiah 19:2

“I will stir up Egyptian against Egyptian—brother will fight against brother, neighbor against neighbor, kingdom against kingdom.”

I can look back at times in my life and just wonder what went wrong.  We have all been there.  That friendship that seems to fade away, the job you wanted never comes.  The hard times seem to mold us whether we want them to or not.

Isaiah is prophesying a word of the Lord to Egypt here.  If I were an Egyptian I would be like what?  You cannot read the Old Testament without reading about this side of the Lord.  The side of the Lord where he seems to stir things up and disrupt plans.

We can glean two points from this stirring up when it happens;

1. God is in control

2. His plans are better than ours.

I have learned, over the years, to watch my life and notice when God is moving.   This is exactly why Isaiah the prophet was used to inform the people of when the Lord was moving.

We have the Holy Spirit today and we should be training ourselves to listen to Him.  If we are God’s children, then why do we expect to have everything handed to us on a silver platter.  You would never do that with your own kids.  Yes, you would be there for your kids, but some things in life require a struggle to learn from.

As parents, we should not steal the struggle from our kids but use it for instruction.  God may be using your struggle to show us some areas of our life that need to be worked on.  Maybe that friend needed to go away or that job you thought you needed would have been bad for you.  God is in the business of stirring things up.  If we ultimately trust in the Lord then why fight so hard to keep the plans God is trying to move out of your life?  Today pray this prayer below.

Prayer: Lord, I know you have set plans before me.  I pray that I recognize them and follow them.  Help me grow when you are stirring up things.  Help me to let go of people and things you are moving out of my life. In Jesus name, amen.
