Isaiah 12:2

“Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid.  The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.”

Trust is something we do every day.  We trust in our alarm clocks to wake us up.  We trust the coffee maker will brew our coffee.  We even trust in the shower raining down hot water for that good morning wake up.  Mountain climbers have to trust the rope that holds them.  Trust is action not a feeling.  And trust can be done with fear also, just ask a young child giving up their blankie for the first time.

We are commanded to trust the Lord and not be afraid.  We are also supposed to be in the place where He is our defense, our salvation, and our source of deliverance.  I will be the first to admit this “trust in the Lord thing” is like a seesaw, sometimes it is easy and we are on top and sometimes we are down and feel it is hard to trust Him.

So what does it look like when we trust in the Lord and not be afraid?  If you can imagine you are a mountain climber and you are hanging off some cliff like in “Mission Impossible” when Tom Cruise is just hanging there in the beginning of the movie off a cliff.  To everyone watching, this is a scary scene but to Tom Cruise’s character, it is just another day at the office. He trusts his abilities.

Now, picture yourself on that same cliff and Jesus is holding on to you. Do you trust Him?  Is He your strength?  Is He your salvation? Can you say “surely God is my salvation” or are you frantically trying to grasp onto something else to pull you up?  The truth is that He is the only way, the only truth, the only life, and the only way to God.  It is time you put your fearless trust in Him.  If you are hanging off the side of a mountain and all you care about is not falling, you are in the perfect spot to hang on to Christ.

Today, give Him your total fearless trust and let Him be your strength and salvation.  His hand is out waiting for you to grasp it.

Prayer: Father help us all to put our total and complete trust in you. I pray the we will trust and not be afraid. I pray that you oh Lord will be our strength and defense. Rather than grasping onto worldly things I pray that we would grasp onto you only and digest you word every day in Jesus name, amen.
