1. “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them,–“”.
12. “Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them. Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body.”
There is something to be said about finding the saving grace and truth of Christ early in your life. Solomon tells us that we should remember our Creator (be saved walking with Jesus every day) early in our lives before life hits you where it counts.
We know that like weeds in the garden we will have to continually work to keep sin out of our lives. And just like the weeds that seem to never stop growing, we will all go through tough times. Jesus said that it will rain on the just and the unjust so if you are thinking following Christ will somehow protect you from life, you would be wrong. Jesus promises to be with us through the battles. We walk in victory with Jesus.
What does this mean when our lives are in a mess? Good question. David wrote in Psalm 23 that even though we walk through the valley of shadow of death He will be with us. He even sets a table before us in the presence of our enemies (bad times). This means that trouble is not a threat anymore. A life with Christ is just like sitting down at a table with your issues and knowing that Christ is much larger than them.
In today’s world, we seem to be flooded by people with enlightened minds churning out new ways to understand our lives, culture, or politics. I can tell you that the Bible addresses all of your issues. Not some, not a few in the realm of religion, but ALL of your issues. Solomon even warns us, as does Christ in the New Testament, not to add or subtract from this Bible. So be on the lookout for anyone who adds books to the Bible or spins out some of what the Bible says. You can make a habit of studying rabbit trails and weird idolatries but you should always be grounded in the Word of God. Understanding the Bible takes the Holy Spirit to reveal the mysteries of the Word of God to you. Before you go off and study the Bible today, always ask the Holy Spirit to open the Word of God up to you and let it speak to your heart.
Prayer: Father as we are bombarded by so many opinions and enticed to run down rabbit trails in order to figure out our lives, I pray that Holy Spirit would redirect our hearts and minds toward you and your Word, Lord. I pray that the young would find Jesus as their savior and never look back. As for those who are advanced in years, Lord I pray that you would create in them a newness that only comes from you. I pray that we all throw all of our sin at your feet Lord. I pray for more testimonies that start with, “I found Christ at a young age…” In Jesus name, amen.
