“The company of the prophets said to Elisha, “Look, the place where we meet with you is too small for us. Let us go to the Jordan, where each of us can get a pole; and let us build a place there for us to meet.” And he said, “Go.” Then one of them said, “Won’t you please come with your servants?” “I will,” Elisha replied. And he went with them. They went to the Jordan and began to cut down trees. As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron ahead fell into the water. “Oh no, my lord!” he cried out. “It was borrowed!” The man of God asked, “Where did it fall?” When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float. “Lift it out,” he said. Then the man reached out his hand and took it.”
Sometimes in life you witness the supernatural. Many other times you hear about it from a friend and marvel. The other day, one of my daughters did something to her back while cleaning out her garage. In pain, she went to church the next day walking slowly. After church, my wife and I took her up to front to get prayed for. A sweet lady named Kaity prayed for her back to be healed. Then my wife prayed, followed my myself, my daughter and her boyfriend.
When we were done, Kaity spoke up and told her that her back is healed in Jesus name and to do something she would not do if it were hurt. She bent over and touched her toes, completely healed! Supernatural healing, period!
Moses held up his staff and God parted the Red Sea and the Israelites crossed the Red Sea on “dry land”. God gave these same Israelites mana from heaven every morning for 40 years. God is a God of the supernatural.
I love this story in 2 Kings 6 because it reveals a side of God that most people don’t understand. A miracle is defined as when something happens that defies the laws of nature. The dead being raised, the Red Sea parting, walking through it on dry ground. The Jordan river parting when Elisha thew Elijah’s cloak on the shore, not to mention iron floating.
The Bible is full of miracles. Jesus healed the sick, casted out demons, made the lame walk and many more wonderful signs we can read about. These miracles are there in the Bible to help us understand the God we serve. In Genesis, it tells us that God “spoke” and he made the earth and everything in it. Romans 8:11 tells us that this same spirit lives inside of us. It says, “And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.”
However, Christianity is not all just about miracles. They should be pointing everyone to the miracle worker, Jesus Christ who hung on the cross and died for all of our sins. He conquered death, hell, and the grave, (Revelations 1:18). He wants of us to have a relationship with Him. Elisha knew God, Moses knew God, Jesus was God. Kaity, the women who prayed for my daughter, knew Jesus also. He is real and if you just let go of your hold of your life and give it Christ you will get to know Him.
After one of my devotionals my wife wrote this story. It applies to how we tend to hold on to our own understanding instead of trusting God.
“It reminds me of the story about a little girl that owned a pink plastic pearl necklace. She loved it and wore it all the time. Her dad came to her one night and asked her if he could have them? She refused and told him no, they were hers. He continued to ask her several nights in a row. She always refused. Finally one night, he came to tuck her in again, kiss her goodnight and asked for her plastic pearls. She smiled, slowly she gave them to him and said okay dad you can have them. He then presented her with a small box. They were real pearls, pink as well and very beautiful.”
Can you imagine what God wants to give us if we will trust Him and obey even the smallest things he asks of us?”
Prayer: Father, today I yield my entire life over to you. Everything in it, of it, and about it. I know you can do miracles and the Holy Spirit has been sent to us from the throne room of heaven to help us and be our guide. If you can make iron float, you can repair my life, heal my body, mend relationships, and guide me in all righteousness. Today, I yield it all to you Father. I ask for a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit and power you talked about in Acts chapter 2. In Jesus name, amen.
