“’Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Kaity and I like to go out and try different restaurants occasionally in Austin during our date nights, but we find ourselves consistently going back to this ramen/sushi place called Eurasia. I always get the same thing which is a ramen called “Back 2 Basic.” It tastes great and fills me up. I admit it’s hard for me to branch out and try other things, but I never regret going back to the basics.
In today’s Information age, there are many different types of teachers, how to books, and step by step guides about how to be successful in life. However, Jesus makes it plain and simple. When an expert of the law tried to test Jesus with a question about which is the greatest commandment, Jesus replied “Love the Lord with all your heart, soul, and mind and love your neighbor as yourself.”
So often we complicate our christian walk and believe that we have to earn our way to heaven by our good works and base it on how well we keep the law. But that is not true. Jesus paid the debt that we owed on the cross so that we can freely love God and love others. Get back 2 basic and remember that no amount of sin or mistakes can ever separate you from God’s love. Our job now is to love Him with all that we have and love our neighbor as ourself. It’s as simple as that.
