“They answered, “An Egyptian rescued us from the shepherds. He even drew water for us and watered the flock.”
In the movie “Rambo”, Rambo shows up in some small town in the mountains looking for one of his friends from the war. Finding out that he had passed away, Rambo is a man without a place to go and no place to call home. If you know the movie, the local sheriff has a distain for baby killers from Vietnam and arrests Rambo. He soon finds out who Rambo really is.
I can attest to the idea of escaping all of it. Running away from the mammoth size problems you have created and attempting a fresh new start. When life deals you a “Game Over”, some of us just switch games and move on. Moses had to flee Egypt because he was as good as dead if he stayed after he killed an Egyptian in cold blood. Estranged from his own people and a criminal in Egypt, he is forced to live in a place called Midian. Here we find that Moses helps out some ladies by watering their flocks and drives away some shepherds that were acting selfishly thinking that the well was only for them. A side note: sometimes you are one good act of kindness away from making a huge difference in someone’s life. Moses, wandering in the land with no place to go, does this act of kindness and later finds himself being asking to join their family. He even ends up marrying one of the daughters and having a child. A fresh start right? Moses names his first child Gershom which means “I have become a foreigner in a foreign land.” It seems as if Moses still has some major issues with who he really is.
On the surface, Moses was not Moses any more. He fled the place where he created a mess. The place where everyone understood who Moses was and nobody liked him at all. You would think that running away and finding a life where no one knows who you really are would be welcome. I guess it was, he found a wife and family but under all that we read that Moses was not happy at all. He even named his first son something that revealed his heart, he was lost and separated from his true calling.
Today, you may be in the same spot. You ran away from your problems and created a new life. One that is very different from the wreck you came from. On the surface, things are great. You have a family and new friends and everyone knows the new and improved you. Only you know what you escaped from. However, when you are by yourself, you seem sad and even cry for no reason. You seem fractured and disjointed and you are tired of putting on a show for your new life. As Moses would find out, the great I Am is calling you. Jesus stands at the door and knocks. He is waiting for you to open up your life to him. Running away from your issues only creates new ones and does not solve anything. Today, get on your knees, take off your bravado, and lay it all down in front of Jesus. He has been waiting for you to get this place so He can begin to heal your life, repair the past, and give you your real purpose in life.
John 8:10-12 says, ” Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” “No, Lord,” she said. “And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”
Come back to Jesus, He is waiting for you.
