There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him:
1. Haughty eyes
2. A lying tongue
3. Hands that shed innocent blood
4. A heart that devises wicked schemes
5. Feet that are quick to rush into evil
6. A false witness who pours out lies
7. A person who stirs up conflict in the community
A lying tongue is one thing every parent can relate to. We teach our kids not to lie, and for good reason. A lying tongue is the second thing the Lord hates.
If you read some scriptures on lying, most of them are linked to the devil. Satan is called the father of lies because that is his nature. His only desire is to lie to the world and deceive them. You might be thinking, “That is not me. I do not lie! I tell the truth. How dare you compare me with Satan!”
You see, lying is avoiding the truth as well, not just speaking it. Lying to yourself about the vices that are gripping you is lying, too. It is a heart issue. You may want to avoid the truth and just go about living, but that will not get rid of it; it just suppresses it. Jesus came to free us from the power of sin and darkness through His blood on the cross. It is only through His blood that we can be free from the lies of Satan.
The Holy Spirit is calling you out today. He is telling you to stop lying to yourself and let the power of God lift you up from the lies you are living. Proverbs 18:21 tells us, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”
Today, ask the Holy Spirit to cleanse you of the lies Satan has put in your heart. The power of truth is always greater than the lies.
Prayer: Father, I pray that I stop listening to the lies of Satan. I rebuke him and his lies, and I hold every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. I commit to stop lying to myself and others, and also to be transparent in everything I do, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
