Practical Living Rules From Proverbs

Proverbs 4:23-27

23 “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

24 Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.

25 Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.

26 Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.

27 Do not turn the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.”

You can over-spiritualize these verses, but why do that? Every one of us can identify with at least one of the practical living rules Solomon points out for us here. Read them carefully and let the Holy Spirit tell you which one you are struggling with.

Are you letting people in your life who tend to ruin your heart attitude? Are you cussing or cursing regularly? Do your wandering eyes glance at pretty girls or cute boys, and a little lustful thought appears, or are your eyes constantly on your phone? Are all the daily paths you take pure in the light of the Lord? Could He walk with you? If you see evil, do you turn from it, or do you pacify it in the presence of friends?

We all have struggles in these five areas, and Solomon points them out so we can be aware of them and correct them before finding ourselves compromising. Really think about these five practical living rules and grade your walk today.

Verse 19 of this chapter says, “But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness, they do not know what makes them stumble.” If you are not aware of the stumbling blocks before you, then your eyes are not on the things of the Lord, and you will surely stumble and wonder why. Take heed lest you fall!

Prayer: I pray that we all take an inventory of our daily habits and let the Holy Spirit guide us in correcting the wrong ones and help us strengthen the godly ones. I pray that we all take an uncompromising look at our daily walk and make the changes necessary in Jesus’ name, amen.
