On the Lord’s Radar

Psalm 119:15

15 I will meditate on Your precepts
And regard Your ways.

We have all been at a restaurant, and the service is, well, not good. You come in and get seated by the hostess, and you sit there for a while before your waiter or waitress comes over to get your drink order. She disappears, only to show up after a long while to get your meal order. The whole experience seems to be disappointing and frustrating. It would seem as if you were not on the waiter’s radar at all. Moreover, you feel like an insignificant part of their to-do list. You could say that the waiter has not regarded your presence nor meditated on making your dining experience a good one.

The definition of meditate simply means to think quietly for a while. The definition of regard is to consider highly. The question today is, do these two terms describe your relationship with Christ? Is the Lord a passing to-do thing every week, or do you meditate on and regard Christ every day?

We all get busy in life, and that is to be expected. Some things in life are “have-to-do’s,” and some are “I’ll get around to it” things. You never leave the house naked, I hope? A have-to-do! You never start out commuting on foot if your commute is 10 miles, you get in a car!

Your daily communication with Christ should be a have-to-do. It should be such an important part of your day that if you don’t do it, you feel like you missed something. To meditate and regard, to quietly think, read the Word, consider what you read, and pray, should be highly important. Kind of simple, and it is. After all, God says that our wisdom is like filthy rags before the Lord, and His ways are higher than ours.

It will not make sense to pursue the Lord’s precepts because your flesh will not like it; it feels obtuse and strange. Paul says we are to die to the flesh and all of its desires, one of which says that pursuing the Lord is dumb and fruitless. You will never know a great dining experience until you have had one. The Lord is waiting for you to give Him a chance to serve you up some Jesus in your life. Once you have met the Lord, you will be hooked. Stop meditating on and regarding hollow worldly precepts that leave us empty and hopeless. Follow the Lord, and He will surely fill you up so that you never thirst again.

Prayer: Father, help us to meditate on and regard Your Word every day. Help us to carve out the time needed to reflect on You and what You have done for us. I pray that we dive into Your Word every day and let it be written on the tablet of our hearts. In Jesus’ name, amen.
