Is There a God?

Psalm 102:25

“In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.”

As a parent, I have been asked many questions by my daughters. How hot is the sun? Why is the sky blue? How come we do not have four legs? Just a few of the crazy things kids ask.

The one question that seems to be asked well into adulthood is, “Is there a God?” Many authors have taken this challenge on. One of my favorites is Lee Strobel in The Case for Christ. But you might be thinking that a logical, scientific, multi-page book is not your style. Today, let us focus on the beginning.

We get most of our products from stores. This question of where things come from really never hits us until we are without, like last week for many of us. The cold snap took out the power and water for a lot of people. Those people had to do without, and I will bet they now have a different viewpoint of provision on the most basic of levels.

Everything has a beginning. Witnessing my wife give birth to our children was proof enough of a God, but for some, sadly, this is not enough. They chalk it up to being something nature has built into us. Some say the Big Bang theory proves that God does not exist. Well, someone had to make the stuff that the Big Bang blew up. The primordial soup of amino acids that was supposed to spawn early life on this planet is another reason some say God does not exist. Well, someone had to make the amino acids to be in the soup. You cannot start with the product; you have to begin with its parts. The Bible tells us that God made the world and everything in it, (Psalm 24:1, 2.) It also says that He is the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:1, 3.)

The point is that everything has a beginning. You cannot get away from the Creator creating everything in the beginning. It is all the work of His hands. If you are still a little leery of the whole God thing, then let me give an example. You drive a Honda. You love the car and picked it out yourself; the color, the interior, everything was handpicked. You are driving down the road, smoke starts coming from the engine, and you pull over. Yep, your bad day has begun. Something is wrong with your baby. At this point, you would not bring your car to a computer repair shop to fix the issue. That would be stupid and worthless. You bring your baby to a Honda-certified mechanic, where you know it will be fixed right. If the Lord God has laid the foundation of the earth and everything in it, including you, why would you not go to the One who made you and is the only One who can fix the problems in your life?

Simple, right? Yes, it is. He is waiting for you to open the Word of God and ask Him to flood your heart, mind, and soul with Him. The Bible says that Jesus is the author and finisher of your faith. Stop bringing your broken self to people. Instead, bring yourself to the Lord God who made you and can repair you.

Prayer: Father, sometimes we seek the wrong kind of help, help from others, help from ungodly sources, and so on. I pray that we seek help from You and Your Word first and foremost. In Jesus’ name, amen.
