8 I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying,
for he speaks peace to his faithful people.
But let them not return to their foolish ways.
A short devotional today. The enemy would like nothing more than to convince you of the wrath of God. God is punishing us, or God has sent this hard time because we have not followed Him exactly. This is so far from the truth. Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, and if you believe any of the New Testament, then God looks at us through His Son’s blood, redeemed.
In Romans chapter one, Paul reveals that if we refuse to follow or listen to God, He gives us over to our own desires and lusts. Do not be alarmed, because this only happens to those who reject the will of God. Romans 1:21 says, “For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.” In this verse it says that they “knew God” but did not “honor Him as God.” In turn, these people’s hearts were darkened, and they followed their darkened hearts into sin. It all started with not listening carefully to what the Lord God was saying.
The last verse in Psalm 85 is super cool. It says,
13 Righteousness goes as a herald before him,
preparing the way for his steps.
The road you go on may not be very clear to you, but God’s Word promises that He will prepare the way of the righteous. Remember, His words are peaceful and full of grace and truth. If you hear anything else, then you are listening to the wrong voices.
Prayer: Father, help us to listen carefully to what You are saying to us as we read Your Word and when the Holy Spirit is speaking to us. Help us to recognize sinful ways and stay far from them. In Jesus’ name, amen.
