“May God arise, may his enemies be scattered;”
I recall singing an old church song that referenced this very verse. I love it because of what it does not say, not for what it does proclaim. The verse does not say, “Let God arise, and His enemies will fight,” or “Let God arise, and His enemies arise,” or even, “Let God arise, and His enemies become strong.” No, this verse is very cool because it proclaims that when God arises, His enemies will be scattered.
We don’t have to worry about whether God is up to the challenge, if God can gather support, or even if God has enough people who will go along and do His bidding. We serve a God for whom all things are under His feet. He made the heavens and the earth and everything in them. The Bible says we are His creation, fashioned by His own hands in His own image, and that He gave His only Son as a one-time sacrifice for our sins so that we could be in heaven with Him. Wow, that is a wonderful proclamation.
We are under the hand of protection from the almighty God of the universe, and when He arises, His enemies will be scattered. Stop walking in fear over what Satan has put in your head about sickness, financial issues, friend issues, or even doubts about whether you are saved. Romans 8:11 says, “And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit who lives in you.” In other words, the power of God lives inside of you, and we should walk in victory, not fear, for we serve a God who arises and does not shrink back.
Your enemies are subject to God; everything is subject to God. You are a child of God! May God arise and His enemies be scattered! Sin cripples your ability to walk with God in power. When you begin to cherish sin in your heart, you will become the very thing that gets scattered when God arises. Today, commit to Him and commit to rooting out sin in your hearts and lives. Arise with the Lord and watch your enemies be scattered. Victorious!
Prayer: I pray that we stand on Your word, Lord. I thank You that when You arise, Your enemies will be scattered. I thank You that we don’t have to wonder if You are up to the task, but that You are ready to act when the righteous humble themselves and seek Your face. In Jesus’ name, amen.
