22 Give your burdens to the Lord,
and he will take care of you.
He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.
23 But you, O God, will send the wicked
down to the pit of destruction.
Murderers and liars will die young,
but I am trusting you to save me.
Either you believe it or not. A famous TV show called “Believe It or Not” made the rounds on evening television back in the 90s. It would show viewers crazy things from around the world that were amazing or just plain weird. You would watch in amazement, and at the end, the host would say, “Believe it or not!”
If faith is not an event, it is a lifestyle, and if the righteous live by faith, then the Bible sits in the category of “believe it or not.” Most things in life we can put our hands on to get assurance of reality by trusting our five senses. The show on TV would bend those five senses and make you wonder just how this person could do this or that.
First, we have to get to the point of belief before we say we walk by faith. I heard someone say that the Bible does not speak to me like it speaks to you, and I do not get things from it like you do. I ride the same bike that Nino Schurter, an eight-time world champion mountain biker, does, and I cannot make it do what it does for him either. The difference is that he has spent much more time on the bike than I have and has made getting better, world champion better, his life’s goal, and look at the results.
You will always say the Bible does not speak to me when you never read it or study it. You do not open up your math book, place it on your head, and magically know how to do everything in the book. It is crazy to think that way. Then why do you wonder why God is not speaking to you when that is all you do? Show up some Sundays and wonder why you never hear from God!
You must get into the Bible every day and study it. Just like the beginning math lesson, you may not understand it right away, but you will grow in understanding the more you practice it. The righteous will live by faith, but if you have not jumped on the belief wagon, you will never live by faith. Commit to opening up the Bible every day and read a chapter. Pray that God will open your eyes to see what He wants to teach you. God is faithful, and He will reveal the hidden mysteries of the Bible through the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:10), but you will have to commit to studying the Bible before you can say you know it, and you will not know it until you read it, and you will not believe it until you commit to it every day.
Believe it or not, Psalm 55:22 says, “Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.” Do you believe it or not?
Prayer: Father, help our unbelief. I pray we open your Word daily and listen for the Holy Spirit to reveal the rhema of the Word of God to us. I pray that our spiritual eyes would be opened, in Jesus’ name, to your Word.
