“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.”
In comedy, you have a thing known as stand-up. It may look like the comedian is making it up, but do not be fooled; it’s all in the script. The whole routine, from beginning to end, is planned. The audience never suspects that. In fact, it looks like it is all impromptu.
Here, Isaiah is speaking to King Ahaz, who is frustrated because the Lord has not given him a sign. Isaiah is also speaking to us. We might be on the stage of our life without a script, and the crowd is just staring at us. When the disciples went out to preach the word as Jesus instructed them, He said the Holy Spirit will speak for you.
Today, your actions may respond to life like you are on a stage doing improv without a script, but it does not have to be that way. Jesus said, “I have a plan for you, one to prosper you and plant you.” Today, pray that the Lord reveals His plan for you; it is the only one that is sure not to fail.
Your first step is to seek God first, and these things shall be added to you (Matthew 6:33). God is still in the sign business. Are you looking for the sign, or do you spend your time and efforts in frustration and panic? He is always speaking, and His signs are everywhere.
He is not making things up as you go. God is not in the improv comedy game, He is not making anything up. His plan for your life is wonderful. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us, “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” He knows the plans for you, so let Him take whatever you have erected in your life as security and give it to Him. If you are tired of making it up as you go, then it is time you give your everything to the One who knows the plans for you, and that plan is for a great future and to give you hope.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help us in our unbelief. Help us to give everything to You and to cleave to nothing of this life, but to live for Your glory. I pray that my heart, mind, soul, and strength be all for You every day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
