“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;”
When our girls were young, we were constantly teaching life lessons. One of those lessons was the concept of sharing. We would hear screams from across the house and a blood curdling, “Mine!” We would run, and the lesson on sharing would start, and the lesson was repeated countless times until they would share their toys. Even today, the lesson is being taught with big things like clothes and jewelry, time and messes. I could go on and on. For our girls, the world of toys was their world, and everything in it was “mine.”
If we are not careful, we fall into the “Mine!” stage in our lives as well. When we walk through life and expect things to go our way all the time, we are forgetting who all this belongs to. As little girls, they would often claim things as their own even though they were not. We would step in and correct the behavior, and every time some feelings would get hurt.
Those hurt feelings came as a result of acting selfishly. You see, we are walking through our life, and God should be our de facto parent. The lessons of sharing and respect are constantly being taught to us by God. Sometimes we pitch a fit over not getting our way, and we get in a mood or become snappy crappy.
When the lessons of sharing and respect finally took hold, everyone got along well, and we no longer heard “Mine!” screamed across the house. Today, realize that all this belongs to the Lord. Even what you think is yours belongs to the Lord. We have been given the gift of sharing God’s stuff and respecting it. Remind yourself that in your life, if you submit to the Lord in all your ways, He will direct your path and lead you into righteousness. Stop being the pouty little kid who did not get their way in life, and instead, tell yourself that all this belongs to the Lord, even yourself.
Prayer: Father, help us to understand that everything we see You built with Your words. It all belongs to You, Father. I pray that we would steward what we have been given to manage well. In Jesus’ name, amen.
