“They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting the Lord.”
You know the friends you have who are constantly looking for bad news? Those people who seem to seek out the bad and say, “I told you so! This was going to happen!” Sometimes they are right, but for the most part, they seem to zero in on the bad news. When something goes wrong, it’s like a fulfilled prophecy they were waiting for.
Isaiah 40:31 tells us, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint.” Let’s do a pancake flip to the other side and see what happens. They that do not wait upon the Lord shall forever be tired and their strength will be gone. They shall be left on the ground crawling around with rodents. They shall run and collapse from exhaustion. They shall walk and barely find the strength to take the next step, and fainting seems like a normal part of life. The pancake flip part seems more like a standard reality for life, especially when life deals us some bad news.
The Bible says that the Lord has chosen the foolish things to confuse the wise. In other words, the world’s way of handling things is in direct conflict with the way Christians should handle things. We are to seek first the Kingdom of God, trust in the Lord and not lean on our own understanding, and plant ourselves by rivers of living water where we bear fruit in its season. If you make a regular diet of trusting in the Lord, your heart will become steadfast, trusting in Him.
When we were little, most of us did not like to eat vegetables. Our parents had to mask the veggies with something sweet, and in time we got used to them and even preferred them over sweet things sometimes. Having a heart steadfast on the Lord and trusting Him does not happen overnight. You have to grow into it. Soon enough, you will have such a great understanding of the promises of the Lord that you will stop putting your hope in your understanding of the circumstances, but you will be able to say this verse in Psalm 33:20, 21, and 22 and mean it:
20 We put our hope in the Lord,
He is our help and our shield.
21 In Him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in His holy name.
22 Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord,
for our hope is in You alone.
Psalm 118:24 says,
24 This is the day the Lord has made,
We will rejoice and be glad in it.
Some days this verse is a commandment, and some days it is a joyful song. Either way, putting yourself in this posture will help you believe that you will have no fear of bad news because your heart is steadfast in the Lord.
Prayer: Father, we cannot pray away bad news. We cannot run from it either. I pray that we face our issues and problems with the Word of the Lord and stand on its promises. I pray that we put our hope in the Lord, and when we do so, our hearts will rejoice under any circumstance because we know the Lord is fighting our battles, in Jesus’ name, amen.
