Worthless Help

Psalm 60:11

“Give us aid against the enemy, for human help is worthless.”

In the middle of fighting battles, the last thing we want to see is worthless help. It comes from all sides and disguises itself as many helpful things. It is like grabbing a knife to cut into a tomato only to find out that it is dull and will not cut the skin of the tomato. It is like asking for help when you move and the one you ask shows up only in spirit but not in actual help. It shows up as a deceiver telling Eve she can be like God if she only eats the fruit. It shows up as Jonah purchasing a ticket to Tarshish and running from God. It shows up as Peter, after the death of Christ, going back to what he did before and fishing.

Worthless can cripple your progress, especially when you rely upon it for help. Have you gotten there yet? To the stage where you can say that human help is worthless. I don’t mean pointing the finger at someone else, that would be easy and we all know the blame game. No, I mean an inward look at yourself and coming up with the conclusion that human help is worthless. If you don’t come to this point in your Christian walk, you will miss God and never see His mighty work in your life. You will be too busy working to fix, repair, counsel, or separate your life to no avail, because at the end of your work, human help is worthless.

I have always said the man with the right tools gets the job done easier. There are many ways to screw in a screw, but a power drill gets it done quickly. What good is a project without the right tools? That project stares back at you and reminds you of your commitment that you cannot fulfill because you don’t have the right tools.

Pray that the Lord will reveal to you His power and might, and remind yourself to do as John the Baptist did: I must decrease and He must increase. When we give our lives over to God, the worthless turns into victory. Are you ready to throw away worthless and give it all to God? Psalm 60:12 says, “With God we will gain victory, and He will trample down our enemies.”

Prayer: Father, help us to navigate the battles and not completely rely on man. We humbly accept a helping hand, but I pray that we never completely rely on it. I pray that we turn our attention to You and know the Lord is with us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
