The Army used to say they are looking for a few good men. College recruiters go to high school games to scout out new potential players. They have a list of names and are looking for someone to fill a spot on their team. David writes Psalm 15 as a list of things one must do in order to walk in step with the Lord. He finishes the Psalm with a declaration that if you do these things, “you will never be shaken.” Just like following a recipe is a sure way the dish turns out like it is supposed to, here is a list of things you must do in order to walk in step with the Lord and be unshakable.
- Your walk is blameless
- You do what is righteous
- You speak the truth from your heart
- Your tongue utters no slander
- You do no wrong to your neighbor
- You cast no slurs on others
- You despise vile people
- You honor and fear the Lord
- You keep an oath even when it hurts
- You do not change your mind
- You lend money to the poor without interest
- You do not accept any bribe against the innocent
What a list, 12 things you can do to be unshakable. Read the list and put your name in front of each action: Does Doug… and so on. You can also use the phrase, “Do my friends see me…” or, “Does my family…” It is wise to surround yourself with a group of godly counselors, better known as godly friends. Being unshakable means you are the one still standing after the storm has passed. Those who have been shaken often drop out of sight because their foundation is not stable. Go over these 12 action steps and see how solid your foundation is.
Prayer: Father, help us to have a firm foundation in You. I pray You strengthen our foundation in You and not in the world. Help us to cut out the sin in our lives and build a foundation in You that is unshakable. In Jesus’ name, amen.
