“Help, Lord , for the godly man ceases to be, For the faithful disappear from among the sons of men.”
I was listening to a preacher the other day commenting on what it must have been like to be a Christian back in the day, fielding comments like, “Your Jesus told you he was coming back, well where is he?” We can all get caught in the trap of despair. David was in this trap in Psalm 12. The first words out of his mouth were, “Help, Lord.”
You may be in the same spot, wondering where the godly men have gone. The Lord calls David a man after His own heart for a reason. It is also clear that he really felt like the Lord was MIA at times. I am reminded of the poem Footprints. In this poem, a man goes to heaven and is speaking with God. He is looking back at his life, looking at the footprints in the sand spanning his life. He notices the hard times of life only had one set of footprints. The last part of the poem is below:
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it,
“Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You’d walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don’t understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me.”
He whispered, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you,
Never, ever, during your trials and testing’s.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you.”
It may not seem like all roses and good times in your life right now. God is carrying you through these tough times. John 14:27 says, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
You are never on your own. That is a lie from the pit of hell. Let God’s love surround you so you can rest in His peace.
Prayer: Father, help us to rest in Your peace. I pray that we set our minds on You and not get discouraged by the trials and hard times in front of us. Help us to look up and realize You are always with us and that You carry us even when we don’t see it. In Jesus’ name, amen.
