The Stronghold of Praise

Psalm 8:2

“Through the praise of children and infants you established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.”

“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.” This statement is really old and refers to how one should be tough mentally and not take everything someone says to heart. Truthfully speaking, words are powerful. In James, it says that no one can tame the tongue. If words are powerful, then we should watch what comes out of our mouths on every occasion.

Psalm 8 is a psalm that I have sung in church. The first and last verses of the chapter are, “Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth.” The song repeats this phrase many times until you just hum it, and it sticks in your head.

If you ever wondered how to build a spiritual stronghold in your life, then verse 2 is your ticket. It states that by praising God, He will establish a stronghold in your life against your enemies. Simple, right? It is true. Every January, K-Love challenges people to take the K-Love Challenge. This is simply listening to K-Love radio for 30 days. Remarkably, this one act changes lives, the radio station has testimonies to prove it.

Praising the Lord is not just a song we sing in church, it is an action we take to build a stronghold in our lives. It is also a declaration of who God is and what His promises say about us who uphold His name. Verse 2 even takes this principle further by declaring that the praise of infants and children propels God to establish these strongholds.

If your life has blown a tire or you ran off the road, you might want to try praising the Lord in song. Listening to Christian music might just be the beginning of the stronghold God is building in your life. You see, if you are on an open field and you see your enemy charging, you run for cover. If you are behind a large stronghold, like a wall or city gates, then the stronghold is a powerful defense against your enemy. God is trying to tell you that if you praise Him, He will build a stronghold that will protect you from your enemies. Take the praise challenge, listen to Christian music for 30 days, sing the songs, pray the songs, stand on the faith behind the songs. At the end of that challenge, I can bet you will be humming, “Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!”

Prayer: Father, I pray that we build a praise wall around us. I pray that we always find ourselves singing and praising Your name. I also pray that the world’s music would become dull, boring, and even offensive. I pray that we fill our minds constantly with Your Word by singing and praising, in Jesus name, amen.
