The Silence Between the Old and New Testaments

I don’t know if you are a history buff or not, but the Bible is full of it. As I round out the chapter-by-chapter devotionals that the good Lord has told me to do, I am forwarding this link to you all. It outlines what happened between the Old and New Testaments, a period of about 400 years of silence from the Lord.

Interestingly enough, it outlines the origins of the players we read about in the New Testament. I will be brief today and let you dive into the article. As you read it, keep in mind that the Lord has a plan. You may feel alone and somewhat without a goal, but the Lord is working.

During this time, it is critical that you bone up on the history of how God works so you don’t miss Him moving in your life. There is a time for everything under heaven, even a silent period. If you are in one of those silent periods of life, it is time to study. Study what? Study the Word of God and its history, because those stories happened to real people and real situations. 2 Timothy 2:15 reads, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a worker who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.” We should all be diving into the Word and studying it every day. It is the playbook for the Christian life. Dive in today.

Prayer: Father, help us to dive into Your Word and let the stories and the history reveal Your hand in the world. Help us to recognize the mighty hand of God in the space between the Old and New Testaments. In Jesus’ name, amen.
