“in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the Lord given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years.”
We have all been there, guilty of not studying enough for a test, not going over the lesson plans, or even forgetting to get all the baking instructions and just winging it. It all boils down to not being prepared. On some level, we just said “the heck with it” and did not spend time diving into the details and understanding things completely. The outcome of this behavior is, well, being lost, burning the cookies, dinner not tasting right, or even failing the test.
2 Timothy 2:15 says, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.” The only way to accurately handle the word of truth is to study it, better known as the Bible. Your job as a Christian is to study the word so you know the truth, and if you do that, then the truth will set you free (John 8:31-32). Free from what, you might ask? Free from the “what ifs” of life that you try to wing and drive yourself crazy trying to figure out.
Daniel studied the scriptures from the prophet Jeremiah and he understood them. From this, he prayed for the people of Israel and asked forgiveness for their sins, and God sent Gabriel to answer Daniel’s prayer. God speaks through His word, it spoke to Daniel and it will speak to you. You must master certain things at your job to get promoted. If you do not, you do not get promoted, period.
It is time that you begin mastering the word of God because it is the one thing that holds the truth that will set you free. You will not pass the test just by going to class, and you will not even pass the test by going to class and hanging around your friends who go to class. No, you must study the material, and then you will pass the test. If you are in a state of lacking understanding, it may be time for you to do some studying in the word of God and see what He says about it before you keep driving around aimlessly trying to find your destination. Lost people wander aimlessly (Proverbs 5:6), do not go through life wandering, but rather follow Jesus and He will make your path straight and give your journey meaning, even in the middle of the land of lack.
Prayer: Father, I pray that we take time to read Your word every day. I pray that it will speak to us and restore our souls. I pray that we seek Your face and spend time praying to You. I know that if we earnestly seek You, we will find You, Lord. I pray that we earnestly seek You today and every day. In Jesus name, amen.
