The Armor Of God Part 2

Ephesians 6:14-18

14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.

If I am going to change a tire, I use the tools to do that: a jack, a lug wrench, and a spare tire. I don’t use a screwdriver. Sadly, this is the state of some Christians, fully aware of the toolset that God has given them but completely clueless on how to use it.

Satan would like all of us to be in this state of mind, going to church every Sunday, hanging out with our Christian friends, and showing up for a small group or a men’s or ladies’ group to boot. All this sounds really great. What is wrong with any of that, you might ask? Well, you are only as good as your weakest link. Satan knows this, and he has crafted flaming arrows to target those weak spots, hoping to trip you up.

Remember the schemes? The plan was never to attack the strongest part of your life. No, it has been, and will always be, to attack the weakest links. David and Bathsheba, Judas and the betrayal, Moses and his anger, Abraham and his lying, Lot and his worldly pull, to name a few. Those weak points have a target on them, and Satan will use them to take you down.

The armor of God is not something you put on when you are in a battle, but rather the underpinnings of a Spirit-filled life: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, your feet fitted with the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit. And last, but very important, praying at all times in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of requests.

If you expect to walk out the Christian life, you will have to learn about all these things. Very good books and teaching series have been dedicated to this topic, and I encourage you to get a book and read it, or a podcast or a sermon series about the armor of God. Study it, and pray to God to reveal its power and importance in the life of a Spirit-filled Christian. Jesus used all of the power of the Holy Spirit to do all the things He did while He was here on the earth. Before He left, He told us He was sending this same Holy Spirit to us so we could do greater works than He did.

The armor of God is a great way for us to understand how we are to operate as Christians. If we are walking out our Christian life, we should be ready to deal with those fiery arrows and extinguish them with ease because of the armor of God we choose to walk with.

Today, understand that the armor of God is a lifestyle for Christians, not just something we choose to put on when life gets tough. Are you walking naked and afraid in your Christian walk, or do you have the armor on?

Prayer: Father, help us to always have the armor of God on. Help us to realize that our commitment to getting to know You and reading Your Word is the key to always having that armor on. I pray that we would not think of the armor as something to put on only when we fight, but rather the very clothes we wear every day as followers of Christ. I pray that we are ready and equipped to use the weapons of warfare You gave us, outlined in Your Word, every single day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
