“22 It is because of the Lord’s loving-kindness that we are not destroyed for His loving-pity never ends. 23 It is new every morning. He is so very faithful. 24 “The Lord is my share.” says my soul, “so I have hope in Him.” 25 The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the one who looks for Him. 26 It is good that one should be quiet and wait for the saving power of the Lord.”
I love those kick and kill movies, the ones with a lot of action. Many times, the main character gets shot or trapped in a faraway place with no way out. He tries to escape, but with no success. In a desperate plea for help, he signals to his team to come and rescue him. This signal is always too late, to the point where the audience believes our main character is a goner.
Then comes the waiting.
He can do nothing more than wait for help. Trapped, hurting, bleeding, and broken, our main character has no way out and is forced to wait. Waiting is foreign to him because action gets more done.
Life can play out like this for us. We push and push until we cannot push anymore. We find ourselves in a spot that is best defined as “no way out.” Whether by our own doing or something the Lord is moving us through, the waiting game is the same.
“I hate waiting!” we spout off in desperation.
Even though we become angry at our current place, nothing changes. We are still in the same spot, with the same people, in the same dead-end job, and so on. Our current situation clouds our minds with nothing but the present waiting game. We wonder, “When do I get out of this?” and “Where is God?”
I would like to introduce you to waiting.
It is not bad. It is not from the devil. It is not a mean game of revenge from God either. In fact, waiting is a good thing, and it can be the best thing you have ever done. Verse 26 above even states that it is good that we wait silently. The very next verse, 27, says, “It is good for a man that he should bear the yoke [of divine disciplinary dealings] in his youth.” God is calling us to wait and to be silent while we wait.
I’m sure you’ve been the loud waiting person. Angry speech at the checkout line in the grocery store or sitting in traffic barking, “LET’S GO, PEOPLE!” We can all learn to wait and do it silently, with a good attitude, knowing that the Lord and His mercy are new every morning. Let the Lord be your portion for the day, resting in Him and waiting silently.
Our character is often tested the most during the times of waiting. The Lord is faithful and good to those who wait for Him.
How are you waiting today?
Prayer: Father, we are guilty of waiting with bad attitudes. We are guilty of waiting with hard, angry hearts. I pray that we wait on You in silence and listen to the Holy Spirit guide us. Gone are the days of impatient waiting. Gone are the days of wanting things to hurry up. Today is the day that I will sit in silence and wait upon the Lord. I pray that I begin to learn this very important lesson and learn it well. I pray that we look for the Lord in times of waiting and know that we are not destroyed because of His lovingkindness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
