Wrong Turn, Right Savior

Jeremiah 50:6

“My people have been lost sheep.
Their shepherds have led them astray
and turned them loose in the mountains.
They have lost their way
and can’t remember how to get back to the sheepfold.

Have you ever been following someone that does not know where they are going? I remember coming back from Dallas one night after a Christmas party with the whole family in tow. I think everyone was asleep, and I was wired and driving on I-35 South, or so I thought. I passed through Waco, and I-35 was laid out like a fence line in the country, stretching as far as I could see. I was singing and driving for a long time when I looked up, and nothing looked familiar. I had driven to Dallas many times, and these surroundings were not burned into my memory.

Not panicking, I continued to drive and wonder where I was, driving and driving until I could find a sign that would tell me where I was and where I was going. After a while, I saw a sign: “Copperas Cove 35 miles.” I was on my way to Copperas Cove? How could I have made such a wrong turn, and where? Needless to say, the trip home that night took a little longer than I expected. Tina woke up and said, “Where are we?” I said, “In Copperas Cove. I took a wrong turn.” The only thing I knew at that point was that I was not where I should have been, and I couldn’t even remember where I made the wrong turn.

You may be in the same place right now, not where you should be. Kind of lost, but not really. You know you should be somewhere else, and the place you’re in now is not it. All you know is that your life trip is taking way too long in these current situations. I have great news for you: Jesus wants to guide you back to the resting place.

All you have to do is submit to Him, get to know Him, and meet with Him every day. After gassing up and getting a snack in Copperas Cove, I looked at the map and plotted my way home. Today, when I pass by that place where I made a wrong turn that night, I laugh. Jesus wants to guide you and be there with you at every turn. Even though your life is not in the right lane. Heck, you could be in the wrong city altogether. Jesus is still waiting to meet with you. He will gas you up, fill your belly with some good Jesus wisdom, and point you to the place He has for you.

Blind trust just delivers lost people. Faith in Christ delivers faith, hope, and love, and a plan for your life that comes straight from heaven.

Prayer: Father, help us to humble ourselves and acknowledge You in all of our circumstances. I pray that we drop to our knees and give You the keys to our life. I know we have to walk by faith, and that faith without works is dead. I pray what Proverbs 3:5–6 tells us: Don’t depend upon our own understanding, but seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take. In Jesus’ name, amen.
