Finding Help

1 Chronicles 12:22

“Day after day men came to help David, until he had a great army, like the army of God.”

This year in California there have been some disastrous wild fires. The winds have carried the fires spreading them everywhere. Entire neighborhoods have been burned and hundreds of people, rich or poor, have lost everything. The other day my wife and I were on a small trip to Kerrville, TX to pick something up for my brother. The night before we heard on the news that the governor of Texas has committed fire trucks, firemen, and all kinds of things to help out in California. Not only Texas, but many more states have committed to help in their time of need. While on our way to Kerrville we passed a convoy of firetrucks, about eight or so with other trucks all going down I10 towards California. It was the help we heard about last night on the news. We pray for everyone involved in those disastrous fires to be safe and successful in putting our those fires in Jesus name.

David was still on the run from Saul. Saul was bent on killing David and David had to run into the deserts to hid from Saul. Some 15 years of this running and hiding was going on. Over those fifteen years David’s plight and his running was gaining a following. Saul continued to battle the Philistines while oppressing his own country trying to catch David. Money, time, men, efforts in vain had all taken their toll. In chapter 12, we see many more fighting men join David from all over the county. These men were again very good warriors. In verse 2, it tells us that “they were armed with bows and were able to shoot arrows or to sling stones right -handed or left handed; they were relative of Saul from the tribe of Benjamin.” That has got to sting the ego for Saul when your own family turns over to follow David.

Many more joined David from all around the Israelite tribes. Some 340,800 men came to join David at his desert stronghold. Verse 38 says, “All these were fighting men who volunteered to serve in the ranks.” The very last words of chapter 12 are, “for there was joy in Israel.” The writing was clear and all over the place. David was going to be king.

I want to highlight our verse today. It reads, “Day after day men came to help David until he had a great army, like the army of God.” I love seeing God’s people come together. At church or at small groups or just hanging out. When you lift up Jesus we see John 12:32 happen, “32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” Lifting up Jesus will attract people period. When you lift up the Lord and make him first in your life you become a beacon of light from the Lord.

When you turn on a light in a dark room you don’t have to make the darkness leave, it is automatic. Today, lift up the Lord in your life. Turn on Jesus in your speech, your actions, and your music. All that you do should glorify the Lord. When you do this, day after day people will come to hear the message and be apart of the army of God. The fire may still be burning like in California but help is on the way. Your life could be a fiery mess but lift up the name of Jesus over your situation. Reach out to some Godly prayer warriors and watch them all start to gather around you and pray.

The Lord never meant us to do this thing called life alone. After all, he said in Genesis it is not good for man to be alone. Get around some people today, even if it is just one or two, that lift up Jesus no matter what. God’s promise is to fill you will hope and faith so you can feel what David felt “for there was joy in Israel”.

Prayer: Father, I pray that we find other believers to be around. Bring the prodigals back to us Lord. Bring the broken hearted. Bring them to us oh Lord so we can pour into them and make them mighty warriors for Christ. Bring them across our paths Lord. Interject them in our lives and give us the boldness to speak into their lives. In Jesus name, amen.
