Driving the Enemy Out

Joshua 14:7, 10-12

Just a little history today.  Here we find Joshua dividing up the land to the tribes of Israel.  To Caleb he promised land as well because of the way he believed the Lord when they were spying out the land.  He was 40 years old when they spied out the land.  Now 45 years later we find him and all the Israelites west of the Jordan and driving out the “ites”.  Verse 10 reveals the fact that Caleb is now 85 years old and in verse 11 he says “I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then.”  He concludes in verse 12 by saying “…but, the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said.”

We can all take notes from Caleb.  Here is a man who is 85 years old and ready to go into battle and fight for what the Lord promised him. How often are we ready to do that?  Have the hills in your life been hard to climb?  Caleb was in the desert 40 years waiting on God’s promise to be fulfilled never wavering but being emboldened every day and standing on the promise of the Lord.  Joseph waited over 20 years until the Lord blessed him with being the ruler over Egypt at the right time to protect God’s people.  He was 17 when he was sold into slavery and he was 39 when he made ruler over Egypt, that is a long time. God’s timing is not your timing, His way are not your ways (Isaiah 55:8-9). We are called to seek His righteousness first and let the Lord handle all those timing issues (Matt 6:33).

Psalm 91:1 says “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”  God wants us to rest in his shadow until timing is just right.  So instead of looking around and wondering “why God” start making habits every day that remind you to dwell in the shelter of the Most High and rest.  Believe it or not, God has got this situation under control and He can use it for His glory.  After all, those 40 years in the desert were not fun but God showed up there every day for His people.

Are you looking for God where you are or are you so bent on complaining about your circumstance that you have forgotten He is right there sustaining you in the middle of your issue.  If Caleb can be vigorous at 85, we can stand on God’s promises and receive strength to fight when the time is right.

Prayer: Father, most often we submit to our problems. I pray that we learn to overcome our problems by trusting in you in the middle of them. While we are still conquering the day I pray that we will never get tired of fighting for your kingdom Lord. I pray that we are ready in season and out of season in Jesus name, amen.
