You’re Going to Have to Go Through Me

“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

John 14:6

In the second Toby Maguire Spider-Man movie, when Spiderman got struck down by Doc Ock on a train, a man stood up and said, “You wanna get to him, you’re going to have to go through me.” That one act of courage, started a ripple effect as more and more people joined in to stand up for Spiderman. Even though Doc Ock made it through the people easily in the movie, that scene is a good reminder about how one act of courage made in faith can make a big impact for the Kingdom of God and the people around you.

The scripture above is one of my favorites in the Bible. At the time I first read this verse in high school, I was unsure about a lot of things and God was one of them. I asked questions like how do we know He is real if we can’t see Him? And how do we know which way is right if there are so many other religions to follow? I was lost. However, when I read Jesus’ words in John 14 it made my decision crystal clear. Either Jesus was lying and he wasn’t the only way to God, or I accept that His word is truth and believe. It reminded me that its all about having a relationship with Him. It’s not about religious works and earning your way to heaven. Jesus has already stood in the gap for me and you. Just like the man in the Spiderman movie, all we have to do is take the step out in faith, accept the free gift of salvation, and trust in his Word.

Today, if you are struggling with the idea of God and unsure of what to believe in, let me encourage you to try and step out in faith and put your trust in Jesus. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30) He doesn’t want to take away your fun. In fact, he only wants to give you life and life more abundantly. He wants to bring clarity to your confusion and order to the chaos in your life. All it takes is one small step out towards Christ and your life will be forever changed.

Prayer: Lord, I’m tired of doing this life on my own. I have been my own god for a long time and I’m ready to surrender control over to you. I recognize that a relationship to Jesus is the one and only way to heaven and I decide to place my life in your hands. Thank you for loving me through all of my doubt, questions, and mistakes. I choose to live for you and serve your kingdom from this day and forevermore. In Jesus name, amen.
