Joshua 10:42
“Joshua conquered all these kings and their land in a single campaign, for the Lord, the God of Israel, was fighting for his people.”
I remember playing football in grade school at recess. Picking teams was always a little scarry because everyone knew the good players. There were the fast ones, the big ones, the tough ones, and a wide cross section of other kids to choose from. The goal was to get all the good players on your team so you could crush the other team. As a kid, no one spoke up and said “hey let’s make the teams fair!”, no it was a selfish talent grab in order to stack the team. Only when one team was completely stacked with all the good players someone would speak up and cry for mercy saying “that’s no fair, you have all good players!”, knowing full well that he would not be saying that if his team was stacked. Victory was inevitable when your team had all the good players. The game quickly became a task of how badly do we beat them and victory was a forgone conclusion.
If you have a personal relationship with Christ then you are on the stacked team. The Israelites show up on the western banks of the Jordan and everyone melted with fear. Victory was forgone conclusion when they consulted the Lord. I can only imagine the bravado of the army of Israel after chapter 10. They showed up and cleaned up in a single campaign because the Lord was fighting for his people.
Have you felt defeated lately? Maybe you just “can’t catch a break.” It is like the tables are stacked against you. Mathew 6:33 says “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Getting all geared up for battle every day and fighting can be tough. In grade school, I made sure I was on the good team because loosing was a forgone conclusion if you were on the wrong team. Today, pray Mathew 6:33 and get on the right team because seeking first the kingdom of God is just a decision away. We have victory in Christ and no other. Start fighting for right team today instead of wasting all your efforts fighting for the losing team.
Prayer: Father, help us to realize we are on a stacked team and you have already secured the victory. I pray the we walk by faith and not by sight knowing that we will be directed by you Lord from victory to victory. I pray that we seek first your kingdom and your righteousness every day and then rest in the assurance of your guidance. In Jesus name, amen.
