Wait On The Lord

Isaiah 64:4

“Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for Him.”

I am blessed to have some green thumbs in my family.  I have learned a lot and have seen some really cool things when it comes to plants.  All the time we have plenty of plant babies sitting around on the counters and bathrooms.  If you ask my wife, she will tell you most of the plants we have today have come from one or two plants.  That is right, I have watched all these babies being planted and grown into large plants that then produce more babies.  The process goes on and on.  The one thing you learn is to wait.  I wish I had a time lapse movie of some of the plants because the roots and the plants grow so slow. One of the foundations of having a green thumb, I have learned, is patience. You can’t make them grow any faster but you can give them all they need to grow.

We have a choice every day.  To follow the Lord in all we do and to wait on Him or to ignore all that and go do it our way.  I cannot tell you how many times I have had to learn to wait on Him.  If you read the verse above it gives us a clue as to why we should wait on the Lord.  It reads, “who acts on behalf of those who wait for Him.”  Yes, the Lord acts on behalf of those who wait for Him.

Now this is not a license to go sit in a room and do nothing while claiming you are waiting on the Lord.  There is a story about two farmers who had farms.  There was no rain and both farmers were worried.  One went out and planted his field even though no rain was in the forecast while the other just sat in his home and said I am not going to plant until I see rain in the forecast.  When the rain came it watered the one farmer’s crops that were already planted while the other missed the opportunity and lost out.

The point of the story is that we all have things to do while we wait on the Lord.  Those big time decisions you have not prayed about, wait.  Those relationships you have been wondering about continuing or starting, wait.  That job you are thinking about taking, wait.  Wait on the Lord.  He moves on behalf of the people who wait for Him.  Before every battle the Israelites would pursue the Lord for direction.  They would not move out until the Lord spoke.  Today, review your decision flowchart of life.  Put the Lord at the front of every decision. The Lord has given us everything we need to grow in the Lord so wait on Him.

Verse 8 says, “Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.” Don’t get too big for your britches my dad always said. Yet some of us have thumbed our nose at God as if the clay has something to say to the potter. Silly right! Remember, you are the clay and He is the potter. He fashions you into what He wants for His purpose not the other way around. Instead of acting like rebellious clay in the hands of the potter wait on the Lord and He will renew your strength (Isaiah 40:31).

Prayer: Father, I pray that we wait on the Lord. I pray that we wait on your timing and trust in you instead of forcing things to happen. I pray that we recognize the doors that you open and also that we recognize the ones you have closed. I pray and decree that we will write the promises of Word of God on our hearts. I also pray that we dive into your Word and be renewed every day. In Jesus name, amen.
