No Weapon

Isaiah 54:9-10, 15-17

“To me this is like the days of Noah,
when I swore that the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth.
So now I have sworn not to be angry with you,
    never to rebuke you again
.
10 Though the mountains be shaken
    and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
says the Lord, who has compassion on you.

15 If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing; whoever attacks you will surrender to you.
16 “See, it is I who created the blacksmith who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its work.  And it is I who have created the destroyer to wreak havoc; 17 no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.  This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the Lord.”

Someone asked me once if we should read the Old Testament.  My response has changed over the years.  At first, I did not see the reason why we should read about all those Old Testament people and books of prophecy, because well, those are completely boring.  I was all for reading about Jesus and the miracles in the New Testament.  That way of thinking was quite some time ago.  For the past several years, I have been taking the Old Testament one chapter at a time and I am convinced the Old Testament reveals the true character of God. I believe everyone should read it, get to know all the stories, and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the character of God through it.

Verse 17 is a well known verse that starts out with “No weapon formed against…” and just about everyone can finish it, “us shall prosper.”  Rarely do you hear the preceding verses, 15 and 16 and much less verses 9 and 10 before that.  Once again the character of God is revealed.

I have highlighted what needs to be burned on your heart.  “nor my covenant of peace be removed”  That is right, God has a covenant of peace with you.  He is not an ogre of thunder and pain to thrash us into believing Him nor does he spin calamity to fear us into following Him.  Sadly, some of us think that is the God they are trying to serve.  That cannot be farther from the truth!  In fact, in verse 15 God promises that if anyone attacks you it is not His doing!  Did you hear that?  God is not punishing you through malicious attacks from other people.  He did not bring Covid into the world to punish you, remember the covenant of peace?

He states in verse 16 that He created the blacksmith that forges the weapons of war and it is He who created the destroyer to wreak havoc….now verse 17.  “no weapon forged against you will prevail,”  News flash…weapons are going to be forged against you but they will not prevail!  If you are a follower of Jesus then you will even refute every tongue that accuses you.  The heritage of the servants of the Lord will see these kinds of things going on in your lives.

The Bible does not promise that you will never see weapons formed against you or people accusing you, but it does say that these attempts will not prevail.  We overcome by the blood of the Lamb, Jesus, and the Word of our testimony.

Today, realize that your testimony is what you use to prevail against the enemy.  He will never stop and you may feel attacked from all sides but (verse 17) they will not prevail.  Stand firm on the promises of God.  Be the Moses that stands on the rock and says to an overwhelming situation, “Today you will see the salvation of the Lord and those the Egyptians, who you see today will be no more!”  No weapon formed against you will prevail!

Prayer: Father, I pray that we see the heavenly host of angels waring for us and fighting our battles. As we pray and declare your victory over areas of our lives, I pray that you would open our eyes so we can see your glory and hand in it all. I pray that we would get to know you Father, a loving and kind Father that protects his children. I pray the we see the good Lord working all around us. In Jesus name, amen.
