If you read this carefully it is very frustrating. The verse in Isaiah telling the Babylonians that all the counsel you have received has only worn you out? Really? You mean all of it? I cannot get at least one piece of good advice from the place we call earth? The short answer is yes, that is, earthly wisdom is useless and will bring us all into a state of frustration and eventually wear us out.
The lyrics from the Toby Mac song are really amazing. The first part of the song is Toby Mac figuring out that he has been led into a place where everything, goals and all, seem “out of my reach” and “waters a little too deep.” I know everyone has felt the next line, “Oh, I’ve never been so aware of my need”. Frustrating to say the least. So it appears that God will lead you into a place that you cannot do it on your own.
Wow, now that is as clear as mud and confusing. Why would God do this to his creation and the people that call Him Lord? Philippians 4:7 says, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” There it is, our understanding of it all. The peace of God is supposed to transcend all understanding as well as guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. When you get to a place where your own understanding is no good, then that is where the peace of God shows up.
You might ask why does our heart need guarding? I mean, what is up with that? I thought my heart became new when I started following Christ. Looking back at Isaiah we read “all the counsel you have received has only worn you out!” That is it. We naturally tend to stray away from listening to the Lord and His Holy Spirit even when we are born again. It is our human nature to do so. That is why the Bible says that His mercies are new every morning. Start today by realizing that you need God in everything you do. The last part of the song is below.

Make this your prayer today. Pray that the Lord will bring you to places where you know you will need Him. Pray that the Lord will take you to a place where you cannot handle it on your own. Go to the place where the Lord is carrying you. (Footprints poem) Faith is not a feeling, it is a lifestyle, so today release control and start walking by faith and not by sight. You don’t have to know where you are going, just have faith that God is leading you. After all, it might be a place where you cannot handle it on your own.
Prayer: Father, help us break through the barrier of our own understanding. Help us stop relying on the worlds wisdom and all of its counsel. I pray that we always gravitate to a place where only you can hold us up by your hands. I pray that we stop listening to people’s ungodly rhetoric and begin to speak what your Word says on hilltops. In Jesus name, amen.
