Cause And Effect

Isaiah 35:3-4

“Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way; say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you.” (Verse 5)  Then will….”

I would be lying if I said cause and effect does not apply to Christianity.  Cause and effect seems to work into most of what we do. If you go to work and do your job, you will get paid. If you actively clean your house, the bugs stay away.  If you eat the right foods, your body becomes healthy.  To go a little deeper, if you feed your mind with the trash of this world, you will become negative and judgmental.  If you constantly listen to politics from either side, you will become opinionated on every issue.  Cause and effect is written into our lives.  It is a way we learn.  We do something stupid and we reap the repercussion. In turn, we sow kindness to our neighbor, we reap the benefits.

The Lord reminds us that we have something to do in the verses above.  We can break it down into three action items…

1. Strengthen the feeble hands.  If your hands are weak, you cannot grab on to anything much less keep holding it.  My grandpa Ed used to crush my hand when I stretched it out for a handshake.  He had strong hands.  We don’t need strong hands to do God’s will, but it refers to the things we grab onto.  Hold on tight to the things of God.  Find your hands holding the Bible often.  Find your hands helping instead of oppressing.

2.  Steady the knees that give way.  Bad knees are absolutely painful and God bless the man with pain killers.  My dad had both knees replaced and he still feels like he is 20 years younger.  If you don’t spend time walking out your faith then you will find yourself with weak knees that are not steady.  The Bible says to walk by faith and not sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7) In other words, you don’t need to see it to believe it.  Steady the weak knees and begin walking out on faith, stop waiting until you see it.

3. Say to those with fearful hearts to be strong and do not fear for God will come to save you. I used to carry a “Bible Promises” book in my truck and would read it in the mornings before school.  I would park in the parking lot and read a couple of pages before I got out to tackle the day.  It is hard to speak in strength when you have no clue of the promises of the Lord.  If you need to, get a “Bible Promises” little book and read it. If you find yourself staring at the Bible and getting overwhelmed because it literally is almost 2 inches thick start by reading that little book of Bible promises, nearly every Christian book store has them. Start getting the Word in your brain and written on your hearts. (Deuteronomy 11:18)

The best part is the beginning of verse 5, “Then will…”.  Cause and effect.  Satan came at the end of the 40 days and Jesus used the Word to overcome temptation.  It was only after that when the angels came to minister to him.  Some of you need to get off your dupa and get to moving because the Lord will find you as you walk through the valley not when you sit in it.  My brother used to sit in ant beds as a kid and he got stung multiple times.  I know he thought the ants were cool but sitting in their bed caused him to get bit.  Don’t sit around and wait on God.  Go do things God tells you to do and watch the Lord show himself as you walk.

Prayer: Father help us to focus on walking by faith and not by sight. I pray that we strengthen the weak, give hope to the fearful, and stand on your Word. We declare that the peace that passes all understanding will guard our hearts and minds. We declare that we will walk by faith and not by sight. We declare that the Lord will go before us and level the mountains. In Jesus name, amen.
