“You will keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on You–in both inclination and character],
Because he trusts and takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation]”
After watching the Pirates of the Caribbean series, compliments to Sophie, I cannot get away from the resolve of Captain Jack Sparrow. It seems as if he always knew the next step that was to be taken before anyone took it. Almost like he was watching a rerun and telling everyone what was going to happen next. We all love those kinds of stories because we are the ones watching and wondering how he is going to get out of this one….and he always does.
If you have taken the free gift of salvation from God and are living every day for Him then you should be a Jack Sparrow in your own life. Living in the middle of this crazy world with so much perfect peace in your life that some people around you may seem to wonder if you have already seen the end of this act in your life. The Israelites must have had at least some of this perfect peace and resolve reading Isaiah 26:3. The Lord promises to keep you in perfect peace and even gives us a recipe to follow.
Keep your mind committed and focused on the Lord. How do you do this? Well, it starts with making sure you commit to learn about the Lord every day by reading the Bible. Second, you have to put your trust in the Lord and take refuge in Him. This looks like someone standing on the Word of God for instruction and guidance instead of looking toward man’s advice or horoscopes or some other ungodly guidance.
I love the amplified version of this verse because it ends in a Jack Sparrow kind of line. It reads, “with hope and confident expectation.” Does this describe your faith and trust in the Lord? Do you have confident expectation of the Lord going before you to level the mountains so you can stare the devil down and stand on the rock of faith you have in Jesus? Sounds like a cool way to live life.
Life will throw many things at us but if we follow the Christian code, we should be seen as the person who operates with perfect peace. Laughing at danger and peril because the Lord God of the universe is on our side and fights for us. Start today with making your faith in the Lord something that people notice about you. Let your resolve and trust in the Lord be something that people want. Be ready to show others the Christian ways and ask them to join the journey sailing the sea of life with Jesus as the captain. We even have a song to sing just like the pirates, it is called “Amazing Grace.” Read the lyrics, for in this song we find our resolve, amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a sinner like me.
Prayer: Father help us to realize the perfect peace we have in you. Open our eyes up to your heavenly host of angels protecting us and doing the Lord’s bidding for us. I pray that we walk in perfect peace and live in perfect peace forever. In Jesus name, amen.
