Speeding Up

Isaiah 16:5

“one who in judging seeks justice and speeds the cause of righteousness.”

When we are late, we seem to speed up a bit.  When we have not studied for a test, we seem to cram as much information in our brains as possible in the shortest possible time.  Breakfast is shoved in our mouths as we hurry out the door.  Our lives can be consumed by hurrying up and speeding.

We all love to slow down a bit and rest, land the plane so to speak.  As our lives take on this overwhelming pace of hurrying about without knowing it we can put our Christianity on the back burner.  If we are not careful we choose to speed up the cause of getting to work on time or getting to ball practice before it starts rather than prioritizing our relationship with Christ.

In the New Testament, Jesus often went to pray and be alone in the mornings.  He was choosing to speed the cause of righteousness in his life.  He had many things to do and say but first he would water the righteousness plant growing in him first. The truth is that you are caring for and growing something every day. James 1:2-4 tells us that we should consider it pure joy when we encounter trials in our lives. It is in those times we must choose to grow and persevere because enduring the trials produces perseverance. When it has finished its work, the Bible tells us we will be mature and complete not lacking anything. Deciding to speed up the cause of righteousness in your own life by spending time everyday in the Word and praying will transform the way you think so you can endure the trials that build your faith.

Today, don’t make your life solely about plans and meetings, but choose to speed the cause of righteousness in your life first.  Be the judge of your own time and put the Lord first every day with some time reading one chapter or a devotional.  Start the speeding process so that the Lord can grow your faith.  1 Corinthians 3:6 says, ” I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.”  Take some time to prepare your life ground for God to grow something inside of you that can be poured out and affect the people around you.

Prayer: Father, I decide right now to spend time in your Word every day. I decide to spend time praying the Spirit at all times. I decide to endure the trials of life putting you first in my thoughts, my actions, and my behaviors. I decide today to let the testing of my faith produce perseverance and to persevere to maturity lacking nothing. In Jesus name, amen.
