“Elisha died and was buried. Now Moabite raiders used to enter the country every spring. Once while some Israelites were burying a man, suddenly they saw a band of raiders, so they threw the man’s body into Elisha’s tomb. When the body touched Elisha’s bones, the man came to life and stood up on his feet.”
The first holding of hands between boy friend and girl friend, mom’s hand stroking your hair, your father’s firm handshake, we all remember the touch. The touch of a loved one’s hands or the touch of mamma’s hands stroking your head while you went to sleep. Sometimes a touch is all we need.
The Bible talks about laying your hands on the sick and praying for them. (Mark 16:17-18) The science of touch is a big thing. These two verses stick out in the middle of the chronicles of kingly stories in the old testament. While we read about battles, kings, and prophecies, God shows us that a touch is sometimes all you need. We don’t know who this man was that was brought back to life. All we know is that he was dead and being buried. While he was being buried, some Moabite raiders showed up and threw this man in the tomb of Elisha. Elisha had already passed away and was buried at this point. When the dead man’s body touched Elisha’s bones he came back to life and stood up on his feet.
Today, make it a priority to reach out and touch someone you love. Give them a hug or kiss or hold their hand. I believe touch is a huge deal with God. Jesus healed many people by touching them. You may not get an arm to grow back by touching someone, but you will surely show love. A loving touch can make things a lot better.
So reach out today. Don’t let anyone you love dearly go without a touch. The Godly touch from the Lord through you could be the difference between life or death in someone’s world today. That man who was dead that touched the bones of Elisha and came back to life is speaking to all of us. It is saying that God’s love can touch all of us and it starts with you and I.
Prayer: Father we read about how a small touch is all it took for this man to be brought back to life. Today, I pray that you would put someone on our hearts that we need to reach out to either by a phone call, a text message, or a personal touch. I pray that Holy Spirit would make himself known and the glory of the Lord would shine through us. Thomas had to touch Jesus to believe that He was resurrected. (John 20:24-29) I pray that your love and grace would extend from us to them so we can show them your love. In Jesus name, amen.
