Divine Help

2 Kings 6:9

“And the man Of God sent word to the king of Israel saying, “Beware that you do not pass this place, for the Arameans are coming down there.”

When I was kid, my brother and I would cause trouble for our sisters.  On several occasions, we would plan out an attack and wait until the right time.  When the right time arrived, we proceeded to attack only to find out that mom had known about the whole thing beforehand and spoiled everything.  We always wondered how she knew because neither of us told her anything.  We thought there was a spy telling mom about our little plans.  As it turns out, the Holy Spirit told mom a lot of things including some of our attack plans.

The Arameans did not like the Israelites.  They sent raiding parties all the time to them.  On this occasion of the scripture above, the king of Aram told his men to go a certain place and raid the Israelite city.  Elisha, the man of God, sent a message to the king of Israel about this raid so the Israelite army would fortify the city and ward off the attack.  The king of Aram was enraged because he thought one of his men has snitched and told the Israelites.  The king’s men proceeded to tell him that the prophet Elisha told the king about their attack.

From my childhood, I know the Lord talks to the loved ones in our lives and warns them of an attack from Satan.  On one occasion, I had just broke off a 2 year relationship with my girlfriend while I was going to college here in Austin.  That morning, I got a call from my mom and she said that her friend said the Lord told her that something major had just happened in my life and that she needed to call me.  The thing is mom’s friend was at least 4 degrees of separation from my personal life and I was living in another city. We had no cell phones or social media or internet to alert anyone.  It was the Holy Spirit protecting me through my mom’s friend.

God is speaking to you all the time.  The Bible says to have our daily bread in the the Lord’s prayer (Matt 6:11).  This daily bread is the word of God.  Jesus was saying that if you read the word daily you will start to listen and hear what God is saying to you.  I am glad my mom’s friend told her what the Lord had spoken to her about me.  The crazy thing about that story is that mom’s friend received that Word the same night that me and my girlfriend of two years broke it off.  Crazy right? She was not the one the Lord had for me. God is speaking to us and your ears will hear Him if you will read His word and trust His voice.

Prayer: Father open our ears to hear you. I pray that Holy Spirit will speak to us and we will hear his call in Jesus name. I also pray that we read Word of God daily and soak up all the promises and stories in the Bible that show your character oh God. We can never get to know you if don’t spend time reading your Word, your holy instruction manual, your life giving Word you gave us. Open our eyes to see your divine intervention in our lives and in the lives of those around us. In Jesus name, amen.
