“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
When we were young and married we did not have much in terms of disposable cash. Christmas and birthdays were a challenge to find something to give. My wife loves to give, even when we don’t have much. It blesses her so much because giving is her love language. We would always find something special for that someone even if it was small.
This is probably the most memorized verses in all the Bible. We have all heard countless times about how God gave his only son to die on the cross for the sins of the world and that whoever believes in him will have eternal life. In Genesis, it says we are made in the image of God. God made the whole earth and everything in it but He only made man “in His image”.
When you go to IKEA and you see a wonderful dresser that would look great in your room, you then take out the card, go to check out, and your wonderful dresser is in a box full of pieces. The picture says it should turn out to look like the wonderful dresser you saw but you have to put it together. In order for the dresser to come out right, you have to read and follow the instructions. If we are made in image of God then it would make sense for us to attempt to put our lives together by reading and following God’s instruction manual, the Bible.
If God “gave” then in order to follow instructions, that should be a primary aspect of your nature. In fact, when you give out of a generous heart, you are unlocking something from God in your life, peace. Your life should be an open hand to everyone around you displaying what God intended you to be like. The Bible says that God loves a cheerful giver. Try it today, give just to bless someone. Give of your talents, your money, your time and God will place that heavenly peace around you. If God loved us so much that he gave, we are never more like Christ then when we model that. Bless someone today.
Prayer: Father help us be a cheerful giver. Help us model your selfless love you have for us by molding our hard hearts full of selfishness to a heart of humility. Your Word says that you own it all, the earth and everything in it. For those of us who don’t tithe, press their hearts to start. If you gave, help us model that in everything we do as well. In Jesus name, amen.
