Wise Counsel

Proverbs 11: 14

“Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.”

On Naked and Afraid we see the poor judgement of people drinking water that has not been purified by boiling and they got sick. A little while after they have drank the water, that night, or even the next day, the people get sick.  The result from drinking contaminated water has brought many to tap out of the show with sickness. Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” What seemed like a good decision at first, ended up hurting them in the end.  Listening to poor counsel might seem like the right thing to do but in the end, that counsel will cause you to crash and burn.

Our lives are like a garden, follow Christ and it will grow blessings. Follow man’s ways, appearing to be right, and you will find the garden cluttered with weeds that have choked out the Word of the Lord in your life. You see, even weeds seem to look like garden plants when they first spring up. It is only made clear that they are weeds after they have grown for a period of time, hence “appears to be right.” That is why it is very important to first seek wise counsel from Godly men and women instead of the world’s counsel that leads to death.

Today, ask yourself who is in your counseling circle?  It could be a trusted friend, a teacher, mentor, or a coach. Be humble enough to listen to them even if it doesn’t make sense. God places these people in our lives to guide us and lead us to success and safety.

Prayer: Father, place wise counsel in our lives, quicken us to heed their instruction and follow their counsel.  Your Word points out the tactics of Satan. He is only here to steal, kill, and destroy everything good in our lives. I pray that the Holy Spirit would help us to discern the Godly men and women from worldly wisdom that will lead us astray. I pray that we cut off any unwise or worldly counsel from our inner circle of people whom we reach out to daily. Help us surround ourselves with people who would lift up the promises of the Word of God and let those promises teach and exhort us, preparing us and pointing us in way of righteousness. Psalms 5:12 says, “Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them your favor as with as shield.” In Jesus Name we pray.  Amen!
