The Story of Joab

Often times in order to understand someone, you have to get the back story.  If we just pick up the story of Moses as he is talking to Pharaoh, no doubt someone would ask, “Who is this guy?” Everyone has a back story that defines them, for better or for worse. The good news is that when you accept Christ as your savior, the Bible tells us that old things are passed away and behold “all” things are new.

You may be the product of your environment or upbringing but you don’t have to stay that way. Especially when Christ offers us a new life in Him. Saul who became Paul is perhaps the best example of how Christ can transform us. From a religious leader who was killing people of “the way” to a man who wrote 2/3’s of the New Testament, Paul shines for all us as an example of the changing power of Christ. You are never too far gone, you marriage is never too far gone, your addiction is never too bad, your past is never too messy, your family is never too hateful. Christ is the answer.

The link below is a wonderful historical narrative on Joab the commander of David’s army.  No big spiritual truth today but a history lesson instead.  Real lives, real issues, and real scoundrels.  If we do not study our past and learn from it we will repeat its ugly mistakes. Joab had to learn this the hard way.

Prayer: Father as we read about the history of Joab from the Bible, help us to realize that in life, our way may not be your way Lord. Help us to discern your will for us and give us the faith and courage to walk it out. In Jesus Name, amen.
