It’s Not Over

Genesis 50:20

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”

We have an ongoing joke in my family when we watch sports. Whenever something bad happens to the team we are rooting for, we immediately say, “It’s over” There could still be 3 quarters left in the game, but we will still say, “it’s over.” We are joking because the truth is that the game just started and anything could happen. As a matter of fact, the game isn’t truly over until the final whistle blows. I have witnessed countless crazy second half comeback wins when it looked like there was absolutely no way the team was coming back. That is why it is important to keep playing hard and trying your best because anything could happen.

Joseph had come a long way from being the favorited boy with a coat of many colors. He had been thrown in a well, sold into slavery, wrongly accused of rape, and forgotten about in prison for over 2 years. By the time his family saw him again when they came to Egypt for grain during a famine, Joseph was in his late 30’s and they did not even recognize him. When Joseph finally revealed himself to his brothers, they bowed before him and said “we are your slaves” (verse 18) Instead of throwing his power in their faces he responds with grace and humility. He says “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”

Maybe right now you are in a season of being treated unfairly by the people around you. Maybe you are dealing with the consequences of some bad decisions. Maybe you once had joy and a hope of a brighter future but right now it seems hopeless. You are right in the middle of the valley of the shadow of death and all you can see is darkness surrounding you. Like Joseph, you are in a pit or an emotional prison with seemingly no way out.

The great news is that no matter what has happened to you, how far you have gone, or how many mistakes you have made, God is waiting for you with open arms. He can transform even the darkest parts of your story and turn it around for your good and His glory. Every day you wake up is a fresh start and as long as there is still breath in your lungs, God’s not through with you. The game is not over until the final whistle blows so put the past behind you, refocus on Jesus, and let God do a miracle in your life.

Prayer: Father, I thank you for your redemptive power. No matter how far I run from you, I can’t escape your amazing grace. I declare that today, someone reading this will get their hope and joy back because they are reminded that with God all things are possible. You are able to transform even the darkest messes into a masterpiece. With you, it is never over. In Jesus name, amen.
