“…Nothing can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few.”
It’s got to be the shoes. Michael Jordan was the GOAT of basketball back in the 90’s. He put his brand on Nike’s high top shoes and the phrase they used to sell them was “It’s got to be the shoes!” Michael Jordan went on to be the GOAT of basketball not because of the shoes, but everyone was purchasing them they wanted to “be like Mike.” You can still buy Jordan’s today. It is crazy how one man can put his brand on a product and it will sell like hot cakes for decades, even though it is just a shoe.
Saul was the people’s GOAT. He was the guy, looked the part, acted the part, and it got to his head. His first act was to pick a fight with the Philistines that the Lord did not bless. He simply acted first and brought God in later to clean things up. His son, Jonathan was different. In verse 6, we find him and his armor-bearer setting out to attack a small group of Philistines camping at an outpost near some very steep cliffs. Jonathan brought God in first here and it made all the difference.
He and his armor-bearer kill over 20 men and God sets the entire Philistine army in chaos and panic. In verse 15 the Bible says that “it was a panic sent by God.” Jonathan’s actions declaring that the Lord can save Israel by few or by many was the difference maker.
Fast forward to today and all our issues. God has given us the Bible, virtually His own words on how to live a blessed and righteous life where at every turn you can see God working. In John 8:32 Jesus said ” Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” If you knew that gas stations had gas for your car but never knew how to pump it into your car you would still be stranded. Similarly, you can know about Jesus and even go to church, but if you never dive into the word of God and seek to know Jesus, you won’t know the truth and it will never be able set you free.
Life’s battles never stop and Satan is always trying to make you act before you have consulted what God’s word says first. The enemy never changes, but how you fight determines how and when God will show up. God first….God size panic for your enemy and you win….You act first without God….you run and hide wherever you can trying to escape the pursuing enemy.
Try putting God first today because your battle belongs to Him. Make your relationship with Christ the GOAT of your life because Jesus has got much more to offer than a cool pair of high tops.
