“In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”
You have seen this thing called the golden rule. Mothers and Fathers have been teaching this to their children for generations. Most shocking is that this is a quote from Jesus himself. It did not come from some president or activist but from God in human form.
Lately, we have been seeing many crazy things happening in our country. I was asked what my opinion on certain hot button topics were during these times. As I was thinking about what to say, I thought of this verse. I cannot find my opinion in this verse. Nor does it give room for me to put my spin on what it means. In short, if you are a follower of Jesus Christ you don’t live based on your opinions, you follow the words from the Lord God only.
Those words are written out in the Bible and in it you will find what the Lord says about all these hot button topics we are facing today. My opinion should be directly aligned with what God says in His word.
We should be unapologetic and accurate on what God says about today’s sensitive topics. We get ourselves in trouble when we start projecting our own opinions and not standing on what God’s word says. Today take a good hard look at your opinions. Jesus said to the women caught in adultery in John 8:10-11 after everyone left who was going to stone her and said “women, where are your accusers? Go and sin no more.” In other words Jesus did not accuse her, he only said go and sin no more. The Bible does not accuse anyone, that job has been taken by none other than Satan himself, the accuser of the brethren.
The Bible tells us a love story about how God wanted his creation to feel loved. Sin is sin and the only way for us to be cleansed is to let Lord clean us up. The living word of God is the standard we should use.
Today, take a hard look at your stance on issues and see what the Bible says about it. You may be shocked at what you find.
